App privacy notice

Version 1.0 · Last updated 23 June 2026 · Applies to the Buni iOS app

1. Who we are

Buni is a bilingual language app for families, operated by WhatThePun, trading as Buni, based in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we are the data controller. If you have any questions, you can reach us at hello@getbuni.app.

2. What this notice covers

This notice explains how the Buni iOS app handles information. Our separate waitlist privacy notice covers the getbuni.app signup page only.

3. The short version

Buni collects no personal data. The app runs entirely on your device, has no account or sign-in, and sends nothing to us or anyone else.

4. Information you enter (stored only on your device)

The small amount of information you enter — your child's first name or nickname, your chosen language, the moments you mark as shared, and your favourites — is stored locally on your device only. It is never transmitted to us, never leaves your phone, and we cannot see it. Deleting the app removes it.

5. No tracking, analytics, or advertising

Buni contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking software, and no third-party marketing tools. We do not profile you or your child.

6. Notifications

The optional daily reminder is scheduled locally on your device. No information is sent to a server to deliver it.

7. Audio and microphone

Native-speaker phrase recordings are bundled within the app. Buni does not use your microphone and does not record or upload any audio.

8. Children's data

Buni is designed to be used by a parent or carer alongside a child. Because the app collects no personal data from anyone — including children — it does not gather data from children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your region). The app is built to meet the standards of the UK Children's Code (Age Appropriate Design Code), applying data minimisation and privacy by default: no personal data leaves the device.

9. Third parties

We share no data with third parties, because the app collects none. The app is distributed through the Apple App Store, whose own terms govern the download and update process.

10. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data. As Buni holds no personal data about you on our systems, there is nothing for us to retrieve or delete — but you are welcome to contact us with any question. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the UK's supervisory authority:

11. Changes to this notice

As Buni grows (for example, if we add the planned family voice-recording feature), we will update this notice with a new "last updated" date and describe any new processing before it begins.
